Free-cutting steels quenched and tempered

High machinability steels with elevated mechanical characteristics

Quenched and tempered free-cutting steels have a higher carbon content than other free-cutting steels, while maintaining a good machinability thanks to the presence of sulfur in smaller quantities. This type of steel can be prepared with the quenching and tempering before drawing or peeling so as to be able to heat-treat the pieces after machining.

When quenched and tempered, these steels have elevated mechanical characteristics and can also be used for parts that require greater resistance and toughness than those of steels without heat treatment.

RANGE Free-cutting steels quenched and tempered

  • Rodacciai Mark

    35S20

    Steel name

    35S20 - Nr.1.0726

Steel with low carbon content and with the addition of sulfur for improved machinability.

  • Rodacciai Mark

    46S20

    Steel name

    46S20 - Nr.1.0727

Steel with the addition of sulfur only; the higher carbon content gives this quenched and tempered steel greater mechanical characteristics.

  • Rodacciai Mark

    PR40

    Steel name

    (38SMn28+Se) - Nr.1.0760

Free-cutting steel with an average carbon content; the addition of tellurium allows an even better machinability.

  • Rodacciai Mark

    44SMN28

    Steel name

    44SMn28 - Nr.1.0762

Free-cutting steel with sulfur only, with a high carbon content to obtain optimal hardness after tempering.

  • Rodacciai Mark

    SAE1144PB

    Steel name

    44SMnPb28 - Nr.1.0763

Steel with the addition of sulfur and lead; the special carbon content allows excellent hardness to be obtained after tempering.

  • Rodacciai Mark

    PR80-SAE1137PB

    Steel name

    36SMnPb14 - Nr.1.0765

Classic quenched and tempered free-cutting steel with the addition of sulfur and lead. The SAE1137Pb version, with the same composition, has a slightly higher temperability and is used for products delivered at the quenched and tempered state.

  • Rodacciai Mark

    46S20PB

    Steel name

    46SPb20

Steel with the addition of sulfur and lead; the higher carbon content gives this quenched and tempered steel greater mechanical characteristics.
